School Age Kids Swimming Lessons Sydney

Mobile Swimming Lessons for School Kids in Sydney

With an increase in self-confidence, endurance and competence, children between the ages of 5 and 12 can establish a lifelong appreciation for safe water activity. Our 6-step program focuses on the refinement of swimming techniques and, among others, teaches freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and dolphin kick to school children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Nereids' Aquatic Coaching team aims to maximize swimming technique learning while ensuring your child will acquire essential water-safety skills and have fun in the process. For that purpsose, swim-related activities and games are all part of the plan!

Step 1: Thetis Kids

Thetis, the goddess of water, was heralded as the creator of the universe and actually worshipped in Archaic Greece. A leader among the water nymphs, she is endowed with a world-shattering capacity. According to a prophesy, Thetis’ son would grow to be greater than his own father and Achilles would indeed become immortalized by Thetis, if only partly. Thetis had planned to immortalise her only son with the mortal Poleus by immersion into the Styx, the river of Hades, but failed to immerse the whole of his body into the water of immortality - causing the first ‘Achilles heel’ in history and making Achilles only partially undefeatable.

We are intrigued by the figure of Thetis, with her cosmic capacity and strong links to water and the creation of the universe. Our Thetis Kids will help your child make the most of the experience of water, Thetis’ element, and provide him/her with many more skills besides!

Thetis Kids teaches your child the following:

  • Floating
  • Water familiarization
  • Torpedoes
  • Water safety

Step 2: Tiamat Kids

A primordial goddess of the ocean, the Mesopotamian Tiamat has been linked both to her Greek counterpart, Thetis, and ideas of cosmogony. A creator goddess, she represents the marriage between salt and fresh water and is said to appear in the form of an immense sea dragon. In later literature, Tiamat appears as Thalatte (leading to the Greek word of Thalassa, the sea) and is described as a sea dragoness giving birth to merpeople.

Through the myth of Tiamat, we can underpin our own love of the regenerative potential of swimming as well as the dangers lurking in any open water environment. After all, Tiamat, the goddess of the sea, is a force to be reckoned with. A life-generating force, she can be cunning and dangerous too!  With an emphasis on water safety, we teach your child swimming techniques to help him/her grow into a competent swimmer (and a little early mythology besides)!

Tiamat Kids helps your child learn:

  • Torpedoes
  • Introduction to freestyle
  • Introduction to backstroke
  • Water safety

Step 3: Ophion Kids

We love stories of the Titans! Ophion, their first ruler, was overthrown by Kronos and cast into the ocean. Initially a god of the heavens, he becomes a serpentine water god wielding a snake, then changes to Oceanus, the great ocean god.  According to mythological accounts of the creation of the universe, Gaia, the Earth, Pontus, the sea, and Uranus, the sky, were all Ophion’s brood. We are inspired by powerful, timeless Ophion, who was first to create life and father a whole generation of Titans!

Our Ophion Kids will aid your child to learn swimming technique and develop his swimming abilities and introduces a number of new activities. Aside from having fun in the water, you child will learn:

  • Torpedoes
  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Introduction to breaststroke kick
  • Knee diving
  • Water safety

Step 4: Proteus Kids

Proteus, the god of rivers and oceanic water, is the god of ‘elusive sea change’.  He can foretell the future but, according to several cultures, will tend to change his shape in order to avoid having to do it. This feature of Proteus is said to have led to the notion that Proteus symbolizes versatility and adaptability, with the adjective ‘protean’ meaning ‘versatile’ and ‘able to assume many forms’.

Proteus suggests the continually changing nature of the sea and our own ability to adapt. By introducing kicking, vertical diving and finessing swimming strokes, Proteus Kids helps your child learn to adapt and evolve his/her swimming style and enjoy this most ‘fluid’ of elements, water.

Proteus Kids includes:

  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Dolphin kick
  • Standing diving in deep water
  • Water safety

Step 5: Castor Kids

No, we’re not talking about the similar-sounding rodent! The Atlantis-born Castor is another powerful Titan who rules Atlantis island. His name has been explained to suggest ‘shine’ and ‘excellence’ and Castor kids aims to help your daughter or son evolve their existing swimming skills, gain swimming confidence and get on the track to becoming a highly competent swimmer!

Castor Kids focuses on developing on your child’s ability to perform swimming strokes, learn to control his/her movement in water and advances strategies for correct swimming. To do so, we expand his/her skills in the following:

  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Dolphin kick
  • Standing diving in deep water
  • Water safety

Step 6: Telesto Kids

The Oceanid Telesto may be seen adorning the night sky as one of the Moons of Jupiter. Swathed in a yellow veil, she is a mysterious Oceanid with a highly optimistic name as ‘telesto’ has been taken to mean ‘success’ and that exactly is her appeal to us as we close the School Kids cycle of lessons. Telesto Kids aims to finesse your child’s swimming skills and introduces several new techniques to help him/her advance as a proficient swimmer.

Telesto Kids includes:

  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly
  • Tumble turns
  • Standing diving in deep water
  • Water safety
